FAQs
What advice can you provide me to ensure I don’t let the game get out of hand? What exactly am I looking for to determine if that’s a foul or not?
First you have to decide if the Charge was legal. Second you have to decided whether or not the “bump” was done in a Careless, Reckless or with Excessive Force.
The ball doesn’t have to be at the players feet to be legally charged. The standard is “within playing distance of the ball.” You and I can be running towards and try to win the ball and I can fairly charge you before we get to the ball as long as we are within playing distance. Playing distance changes by age and skill level and can be shorter or longer.
It might be a good idea to, at some point, talk to the smaller player’s coach and say “... I know she is getting bumped and falls to the ground but the larger player is fairly charging her and no foul is being committed.”
The issue with this is that it opens you up to the coach’s opinion of why you would be wrong. Ultimately, you can always tell them that if they still disagree with you, they can send me (

) an email.
