Leo
Nedeff
(1932-2004)
If you think of AYSO regions as
human bodies, then you have to believe Region 88’s heart was
and will always be Leo Nedeff.
For almost thirty years he was the
constant part of a program that sees people come and go every few years.
His passion for the game, its laws and the players
who participated in it was evident anytime anyone even mentioned the
word “soccer” around
him.
His involvement in our program inspired many others to follow and those
of us who do follow may only hope to reach as far, as we try to make
a difference in the lives of our youth.
It would be difficult to find a referee in our region who did not consider
Leo his or her mentor.
It would be difficult to find a person in our region who did not consider
Leo his or her friend.
He enriched the lives of anyone who ever came in contact with him, whether
on or off the field.
He leaves a legacy of service to our program that may never be equaled,
when one considers the countless hours he spent refereeing, coaching,
administrating, mentoring, and instructing.
Leo gave his time like few others would and in so doing gave of himself.
He is not gone and will never be gone in the hearts of those who knew
him and loved him.
He will remain there as a constant reminder of what is good in all of
us.
The final whistle has blown in the life of a great man.
It is now up to us to use that whistle as the start of another game
and continue the legacy he created for a program he so proudly loved
for so many years.
Rest in peace, Leo.
You did well.
