Nicole Battles
1958 - 2011

Nicole Battles
was the epitome of an AYSO volunteer here in Glendale and La Crescenta.
There was nothing she wouldn't do for the children she so deeply loved.
Whether she was managing, coordinating, coaching, or refereeing,
Nicole was a role model for the kids playing soccer.
Nicole joined AYSO Region 88's Board of Directors in 2004
as Trophy Coordinator. In the following years, she served as Assistant Registrar,
Assistant Treasurer, Child and Volunteer Protection Advocate, and Spring Season Coordinator.
Over the last 10 years, Nicole coached many different girl soccer teams,
including regular season teams, All-Star teams, Spring Season teams,
and Tournament Teams. Nicole had such energy and love of life.
She always was one who would volunteer, lead programs and get things accomplished.
She did so much because she loved to be involved and make a difference.

No task was too big or too hard for Nicole.  Once Nicole took on a project, she
would see it through.  Even after working a long day for her family, she would
often work late into the night or all weekend to accomplish the mission of our AYSO program.
When others would be relaxing at home, Nicole worked.

As a coach, Nicole's teams excelled. She had the uncanny
ability to remember every player and what positions they played best on the field.

And then there was the bun. Nicole's hair was always in a bun
and everyone knew there was always a pen in that bun.
Nicole didn't simply provide a pen when it was needed: she gave
us all support, friendship, a laugh, a kind word, and always a smile.

Nicole left us all too soon on May 25th.
She will be remembered by the thousands of
those whose lives she touched.

Aldo Mascheroni
AYSO Region 88 Commissioner
