2007 Desert Tournaments

In late May, Glendale United carried it's success into the high desert by winning the highly-acclaimed Lancaster/Quartz Hills Soccer Shootout Tournament. Two weeks later they won the Newbury Park Patriot's Cup.

In Lancaster, after giving a quick goal to a very strong Lakewood team to start the tournament, Glendale quickly bounced back with goals from Rodolfo , Pavle, and Chris R to win the first game 4-2

In the 2nd game, they played a high-scoring team from Valencia, who won their previous game 12-2. Glendale dismantled the Valencia attack and shut them out 4-0. Goals were scored by Rodolfo, Pavle, Jonathan and Joshua.

The 3rd game ended in a 3-3 tie with an over-achieving Woodland Hills, but this still put Glendale into the championship game.

Under the hot sun for the final game, Glendale had a rematch with Woodland Hills. Glendale went down 1-0 on a defensive mistake and a persistent Woodland Hills team. Despite controlling the game, Glendale waited until 5 minutes left in the game to tie the score on an unimaginable goal by Jonathan . In overtime, Glendale struck first.. and last.. as Chris C scored the game winner with a few minutes to go. The Glendale defense was stifling all tournament, and was one of the the main reasons Glendale brought home another Boys-Under 14 championship.

In Newbury Park, Glendale dismantled its opposition, 3-1, 5-1, 5-1 and winning the championship game 4-2.

Region 88 U12-Boys team won another championship, the Kern River Crude Oil Classic Tournament in Bakersfield which took place on May 5 and 6, 2007

After winning the first game 1-0 by forfeit against Mc Farlands, Glendale United beat their second opponent, Newbury Park Panthers, 3-0.

In order to win the championship, the Glendale boys needed a tie against Porterme Royals of Porterville. The game started well for Glendale with controlling the midfield and keeping the ball on the opponent’s side. A quick counter-attack forced Glendale to let a goal in. However the boys came back and after scoring a goal were able to hold on to the tie and finished the match 1-1.

The boys had lots of fun at Bakersfield. From playing soccer match against dads and their siblings, to a pool party at one of our players’ grandparents’ house, to exercising at the hotel gym they spent memorable times together continuing their long but successful season.

Glendale United dominated all 3 pool game by scores of 3-0, 2-1 and 3-2, and went directly to the finals against a strong West LA team. A goal by Michael A put Glendale up 1-0 through 70 minutes, but West LA jumped on a little mistake and tied the game with a minute to go.

In the 98 degree heat, both teams were exhasuted and no goals were scored in overtime. In their frist PKs ever for this team, they fell short and ended up with the Silver medal.
