Lightspeed Boys U10 Tournament Team The U-10 Boys Championship game betweet the Glendale Lightspeed and Culver City was a good, close contest, the entire game. Play went back and forth until the end of the first quarter, when Culver Cities right winger (#12) beat two defenders down the right side and banged a shot into the left corner to take a 1-0 lead. They barely had time to celebrate, because to start the second quarter (less than a minute later). Alec Yanikyan fed a through pass to Eric Hartounian on the right side. The goalie, the defender, and Eric, all slide toward the ball and Eric poked it in for a 1-1 tie. Late in the half #12 again took a great pass from the right baseline and drilled it in on a full volley. The goalie didnt have a chance. In the third quarter, both teams had chances, until Eric was tripped in the penalty box. I called Sean Han up from his Fullback position, and he calmly knocked in the tying goal, in the upper left corner. The rest of the game was a thriller, with both teams having numerous chances. Finally, with our huge home crowd advantage cheering us on, and under five minutes to play, Eric took a pass from Christian Avila and at an impossible angle from the right baseline, and snuck it past the goalie for a 3-2 lead. The crowd erupted! We fought off a few more Culver City chances to take home the thrilling victory. We found out later that Culver City has been a club team for 3 years, while we had most of our players for 3 months or less. Also, the boys had character and class equal to their talent, and we had fabulous parental support. That makes the victory even sweeter. Also, we are still playing friendlies, and might be in some tournaments before the summer ends. |
