For a second week in a row, AYSO Region 88 Coach Frank Bagheri’s
Glendale Under-19 Girls Soccer Team captured a tournament championship.
After winning the fourth annual Leo Nedeff Soccer Tournament,
Glendale moved on by winning an event in Redlands in early June.
Glendale posted a 3-1 win against Upland and then notched a 6-1
against South Ontario before winning the championship game against
Menifee on penalty kicks. Menifee built an early 2-0 lead in the
first half before Glendale rallied for four unanswered goals just
before halftime. However,
Menifee knotted the game at 4 to send the match into overtime.
Neither team scored, forcing penalty kicks. Glendale won on penalty
kicks, 5-3.
Glendale also recently won the Quartz Hill Shootout Championship,
which featured 12 California teams.
Glendale was selected to participate in AYSO’s National
Games in Hawaii. The event will run July 7-13 and feature 24 teams
from the United States and abroad for the AYSO National Championship.
The 20 player roster consists of Vinaka Angulo, Bailey Bagheri,
Brittany Bagheri, Lauren Barton, Karissa Boyles, Megan Cowie, Emily
Fisher, Katie Fisher, Jessica Gabrielian, Lauren Gabrielian, Karena
Griffiths, Kimberly Kellam, Gwennie Kenny, Breanna King, Chelsea
Lawrence, Jennifer Patterson, Nina Sbardellati, Emma Vine, Kailyn
