July 22-24, 2005
Glendale’s Girls Under 16 Tournament Team took First Place in the 2005 Annual Freeway Jam Tournament at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Playing under the offensive guidance of Pat Chavez, the team racked up fifteen goals in five games. Doug Wallis’ defense held opponents scoreless throughout the tournament. With twelve players in the lineup on a hot Friday afternoon, the team made a run through the Rose Bowl sprinklers on the way to a well-played 1-0 victory. The girls broke through their 8am start time jinx to a solid 2-0 win Saturday morning. The team returned at 1pm to defeat their next opponent 4-0. Facing their toughest challenge Sunday morning, the team put together an impressive game winning 4-0. Glendale’s GU16 girls wrapped up the tournament with an ice water cooler drenching of Coach Chavez after another 4-0 score.
The girls put forth an outstanding team effort in their last tournament of the season. Congratulations and a job well done to Amanda, Amy B., Amy R., Ashley, Bridget, Becky, Cindy, Claire, Dana, JJ, Katie, Marian, Nina, Sara and Sarah.
